Fleaky Flash Fiction Contest

Halloween’s approaching and the Writing Center wants your scariest flash fiction stories for its FLEAKY FLASH FICTION CONTEST!

Send us a scary story of no more than 500 words for a chance to win two tickets to Fright at the Fort—an evening of frights and delights (either October 29th or 30th) in one of Maine’s oldest forts on the banks of the Penobscot in Bucksport, ME, along with a $20 gift certificate for dinner at Ming’s Chinese Restaurant, also in Bucksport.

Stories will be judged on the effectiveness of the tale and lack of grammatical or spelling errors. We reserve the right to award no prize if stories do not meet our criteria.

Deadline: Noon, Oct. 27th
Winner to be announced in the Student Center at noon on Oct. 28th
Open to all Unity College students, faculty and staff, except for staff of the Writing Center

Writing Center tutor Marissa Smith sends along this story starter to get you in a scary mood…

It crawled from out the dark of the trees. Rolls of sagging flesh clung to its jaws, and beady red eyes rolled in their shallow sockets. It crept past the gnarled branches and felt freshly trimmed grass beneath its slimy claws. Before it sat the town, sleepy and quiet in the night. The thing's teeth, long and thin as needles, flashed in the moonlight…
