42

This may be cheesy in some eyes, but I see this as a very possible question to the answer 42.

How many times must you fall in love before you find your true love, your soul mate, the other half of your heart?
42!

Though it is possibly corny, this is very possible. We all have our grade school crushes. Our junior high sweet hearts. And we've all had summer flings or secret crushes. It is plausible, on average, that we could fall in love 42 times before we decide we've found the person that we want to spend the rest of our life with.

I mean, on a very primitive and scientific level (not taking into consideration human emotion, the philosophical way that our brain works and how the world works) we evolved to reproduce and to thrive and survive. Essentially we are to find our life mate, make babies and die. Is it so heard to believe that in our quest to find that mate that completes our chemical balance so completely that we fancy ourselves crossed in love 42 times before we find that perfect person?

Now on the philosophical level, we all make mistakes and fall in and out of love. I mean, none of us probubly do it as quickly as Romeo but it happens. And

  1. May be cheesy, but certainly fits with the movie version of Hitch-Hiker's implication that love seems to be the meaning of the universe.
