Something as simple as a towel

Now John Zavodney may disagree with me, but I believe that the importance and versatility of something as simple as a towel, must be discussed.
A few uses for a towel straight from the source:
"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to- hand-combat; you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough."
So you see there are many uses for something as simple as a towel; and perhaps we are taking our towels for granted, believing they have but one use. This seems beyond boring; for something to have only one use, even if it is fabulous at drying things how laborious for the towel. Who are we anyway; to predetermine what towels can and cannot do? I think that a lot of the time we simply underestimate the capabilities of our towels to do anything other than what we believe it is designed for. And honestly what does this say about us as humans? To assign a role to something so strongly that we believe it is good for nothing else, except what we say it must be used for? The right of towels and inanimate objects everywhere are being typecast into roles they maybe they themselves don't even wish to perform.
To move on towels have a strong psychological affect on us as well. Think back to every beach day you had then think of that warm towel that you lied on; or when you were a child and you parent wrapped you in a nice warm towel after a soothing bath. Towels play the best friend in the romance stories of our lives; the best friend that seems almost insignificant to the plot yet... without them the story would fall to pieces, that is the true essence of towels.
So next time don't discard your towels to the cold floor once you've used them, but instead look deeper next time and see the real value.
